The short answer: make LinkedIn carousels 1080 × 1350 px, portrait 4:5, with every page the same size, and upload them as a PDF under 100 MB and 300 pages. Use square 1080 × 1080 when you reuse images made for another network.
| Format | Pixels | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 | Most LinkedIn carousels |
| Square 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 | Reusing square images; carousel ads |
| Vertical 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 | Stories and Reels on other networks, not LinkedIn documents |
| Landscape 16:9 | 1920 × 1080 | Presentations; small and hard to read in a phone feed |
What LinkedIn itself says
LinkedIn does not publish a recommended pixel size for carousels, which are document posts. What it does publish:
- Documents can be PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOC or DOCX, up to 100 MB and 300 pages. PDF gives the best quality.
- Pages of different sizes have to be fitted to one page size.
- Photos in posts are shown at a ratio between 3:1 and 4:5, and LinkedIn recommends making them 1080 px wide.
The 1080 × 1350 standard follows from those last two rules: 1080 px is the width LinkedIn asks for, and 4:5 is the tallest shape it uses for images in the feed. Everything else in this guide is practice, and we say so where it is.
The same slide in three formats
Why portrait 4:5 is the default
People read LinkedIn on phones, scrolling down a narrow column. At the same width, a 1080 × 1350 page is 25% taller than a 1080 × 1080 one, so it takes more of the screen and gives your text more room. That is the whole reason, and it is enough.
Square is fine, and it is the right choice when the slides started life as square images for Instagram or as carousel ad cards. Landscape decks are the format to avoid: on a phone a 16:9 slide is a short strip, and its text shrinks with it. If you are reusing a presentation, change its page size before you export (see PowerPoint and Google Slides).
Keep every page the same size
A carousel is one PDF, and LinkedIn's help says pages of different sizes must be fitted to the same size. When they are not, slides shrink, grow or get bars at the sides as people swipe. Pick one format for the whole carousel and check the PDF before you upload: every page should report the same dimensions.
If your slides are separate images of slightly different sizes, our free images to LinkedIn carousel PDF tool draws them all on one page size and gives you the PDF.
Pixels, points and sharp text
A PDF page has no pixel size; it is measured in points, and text in it can stay sharp at any zoom. What matters is the shape of the page and the resolution of anything that is an image. If your tool exports slides as pictures inside the PDF, export them at least 1080 px wide, or text will look soft on a large screen. If it exports real text, the ratio is all that counts: an 8 × 10 inch page is 4:5 just like 1080 × 1350 px.
Size the text for a phone, not for your monitor
| On a 1080 px wide slide | Our working range |
|---|---|
| First slide headline | 80–100 px |
| Slide headings | 60–70 px |
| Body text | 40–48 px, never below about 32 px |
| Margins | At least 100 px on each side |
These are rules of thumb, not LinkedIn rules; test them on your own phone. More in fonts for LinkedIn carousels and LinkedIn carousel design.
How many slides
The only hard limit is 300 pages. LinkedIn's own guide to document posts once suggested 8 to 25 pages. In practice the right number is as many as the idea needs: most good carousels land between 6 and 12 slides. See how to structure a LinkedIn carousel.
Other LinkedIn sizes people confuse with carousels
| Format | Size |
|---|---|
| Carousel ad card | 1080 × 1080 (1:1), up to 10 MB each, 2 to 10 cards |
| Single image in a post | 1080 px wide, between 3:1 and 4:5, up to 5 MB |
| Multi-photo post | Up to 20 photos, shown as a grid no taller than 4:5 |
| Document ad | Vertical, horizontal or square pages; up to 100 MB and 300 pages |
How cropdot handles it
In the editor, Layout → Size sets the format for every slide at once: Carousel (4:5), Square (1:1) or Stories (9:16). Export → Download PDF renders each slide 1080 px wide, so the PDF has the sizes from the table above and every page matches. To post it, follow how to post a carousel on LinkedIn.
